Gary A. Yon, 65, Gallitzin, died Sept. 16, 2017, at his home. He was born in Altoona, son of the late Paul and Virginia (Caldwell) Yon. Surviving are his wife of 48 years, the former Cheryl Patterson, whom he married Nov. 1, 1969; a daughter, Missy (Jim) Mitchell of Duncansville; three grandchildren: Trevor, Ben and Alayna; two brothers: Paul (Penny) Yon and Denny (Candy) Yon, both of Altoona; and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Leslie; and a sister, Beverly Stetter. Gary was a graduate of Altoona Area High School. He retired from Electric Motor & Supply Inc., Altoona, as a machinist. He was a member of the Bavarian Aid Society, Altoona, and Gallitzin United Methodist Church, where he served on the church board, sang in the choir, cut the grass around the church and helped with communion. Gary enjoyed bowling, golf, hunting and fishing. A memorial service will be held at 4 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 30, 2017, at Gallitzin United Methodist Church, the Rev. Stephen Moore officiating, followed by a reception from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the Bavarian Aid Society (Heritage Hall), 112 S. 13th St., Altoona. Arrangements are by Gibbons Funeral Home, 301 Church St., Gallitzin.
