James Anthony Consalvo

April 15, 1951 – Sept. 22, 2023

James Anthony Consalvo, 72, Altoona, unexpectedly passed away Friday at UPMC Altoona. He was born in Altoona, son of the late Vincent and Elizabeth (Delozier) Consalvo. He enjoyed 72 years on earth preparing to meet Jesus.

Our dad is survived by his two daughters, Heather M. Consalvo of Altoona and Jennifer L. Van Dahm in Texas. He was the grandfather of three: Tyler Weyant, Trenton Weyant and Traxton Smith. He was also blessed with a great-granddaughter, Brinley Ann Grace Weyant. Known as Jimmy to his siblings, he was the third of eight children. Surviving are Josephine Nearhoof, Elizabeth “Betsy” Consalvo, Linda Woodring, David (Brenda) Consalvo, Melissa Plessinger and Rebecca (David) Figard. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews. He was especially close to his nephew, Mitchell Nearhoof.

He was preceded in death by his brother, Patrick Consalvo.

Jim graduated from Altoona Area High School in 1969. A few years later, he met our mother, Cheryl Ann (Wilt), and they married on Jan. 11, 1975, at Canon Station Mennonite Church. They remarried on Feb. 14, 1976, at St. Therese of the Child Jesus Catholic Church. After 45 years of marriage, our mother passed away on March 29, 2021. We were blessed to call them Mom and Dad.

Our dad worked very hard to provide a wonderful life for his family. His career started out at Boyer Candies, A&P Grocery and Jewel T before securing a 30-plus year career at Lance Inc. All his hard work allowed him to retire in 2012.

Our dad was a devout Catholic. He belonged to Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church in Altoona. He attended Mass daily. He also attended Mass at different churches in the area to enjoy their beauty. It gives us great comfort knowing our dad must be in awe in Heaven, meeting Jesus and walking those streets of gold. He is finally home.

Our dad and late mom loved going to casinos together until her health prevented them. They have finally hit the real jackpot, getting to spend eternity together in Paradise.

He also enjoyed stock trading, collecting trains, watching old black and white movies, Mustangs and gardening. He loved being surrounded by his family.

He was a wonderful example of what most people strive to be. His huge kind heart, smile and love will be deeply missed. We love you, dad. Thank you for being the best dad and pap we could ever ask for. God bless you!

There will be a private viewing for immediate family. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 27, 2023, at Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church in Altoona, with Father L’ubomir J. Strecok, celebrant. Committal at Calvary Cemetery, Altoona.

Arrangements are by Jones Funeral Home, 1222 13th Ave., Altoona.
