He was born in Altoona, son of the late George Sr. and Stephanie (Potapa) Barry. He married Ruth A. Dibert on Aug. 3, 1992.

Surviving are his wife; a daughter, Autumn Barry-Kyle (Tom) of Altoona; a stepson, Donald R. Claar (Heidi) of Osterburg; three grandchildren: Cassie Kyle, Katie Claar and Kimmie Claar; a brother, Raymond Barry (Maryanne) of Mechanicsburg; a sister, Carol West in Missouri; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by three brothers: Bill, Don and Ralph.

Dean was a 1969 graduate of Altoona Area High School. He was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran of the Vietnam War, where he received a Purple Heart. He retired as steward of the Frohsinn Singing Society and was a member of Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church, Altoona.

Dean enjoyed bowling and spending time with his family, especially watching his granddaughter, Cassie, play soccer. He was also an avid Notre Dame and Pittsburgh Steelers fan. "Semper fi."

Friends will be received from 2 to 7 p.m. Friday, Dec. 11, 2015, at The Stevens Mortuary Inc., 1421 Eighth Ave., Altoona. A memorial service will follow at 7 p.m. Friday in Stevens Memorial Chapel.
