Gerald E. ‘Jerry’ Ansman

Gerald E. “Jerry” Ansman, 70, Bellefonte, formerly of Altoona, died Saturday at Van Zandt VA Medical Center, Altoona, after a brief illness. 

He was born in Altoona, son of the late Cletus G. and Elizabeth J. (McNulty) Ansman.

Surviving are a son, Christopher Peters; two stepsons: Thomas and Bruce McGee; two brothers: John J. Ansman of Huntingdon and Joseph C. Ansman of Bellwood; six sisters: Mary F. Brodka (Walter) of Tarentum, Bonnie L. Merilli (Gregory) of Altoona, Sharon Caber (Alton Sr.) in Ohio, Robin M. Dunklebarger of Altoona, Barbara J. Diehl of Bellwood and Rebecca L. Weyant (William) of Altoona; a grandson, Thomas McGee Jr.; and many nieces and nephews and great-nieces and nephews. 

He was preceded in death by three brothers: Thomas, James and Michael.

Jerry completed his studies at Altoona Area High School in 1969 and then went on to serve in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam era. He was a jack-of-all-trades through the years, but was mainly a carpenter for much of the time. He was also a model train enthusiast.

Friends will be received from 4 to 6 p.m. Tuesday, June 15, 2021, at The Stevens Mortuary Inc., 1421 Eighth Ave., Altoona. A funeral service for Jerry will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, June 16, 2021, at the Memorial Chapel of The Stevens Mortuary Inc., Father Ronald V. Osinski, celebrant. Committal will be held at Calvary Cemetery.
