Ralph F. "Fly" Williams, 59, Altoona, died Monday at Altoona Regional Health System, Altoona Hospital Campus, after an extended illness.

He was born in Altoona, son of the late Jack and Mary Margaret "Mickie" (Fickes) Williams. He married Miriam T. Kapfhammer on Sept. 8, 1979, at the Cathedral of the Blessed Sacrament.

Surviving are his wife; four sons: Zachary and wife, Renee, of Lorton, Va., Damian of Springfield, Va., and Nathan and Anthony, both at home; two grandchildren; a brother, Jack of Altoona; and numerous close friends.

Ralph was a 1969 graduate of Altoona Area High School and attended Penn State University. He previously had worked as a superintendent at Central Blair Recreation Commission for 32 years. He was of the Presbyterian faith.

Ralph enjoyed baseball, golf and bowling. He had been a standout baseball player in the Connie Mack, American Legion and City leagues, and he had coached at Altoona Area Baseball Association Little League for 13 years.

Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, May 20, 2010, at Jones Funeral Home, where a funeral service will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Friday, May 21, 2010, the Rev. Stephen Durr officiating. Committal will be at Calvary Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Home Nursing Agency Adult Day Care or Horizons Hospice

"Cem" Maier

Ralph was a good guy.  He was the star basketball player at Logan Area Junior High School, way back when.  I had alot of positive connections with Ralph over the years, due to our mutual interest in basketball.  My prayers are with his family.
