Nancy Lee (Stacey) Fornwalt, 63, Altoona, died peacefully Tuesday at home after a courageous year-long battle with leiomyosarcoma.

She was born in Fort Worth, Texas, daughter of the late William M. and Margaret (Shay) Stacey. She married Thomas J. Fornwalt on Oct. 9, 1987, at Fifty-Eighth Street United Methodist Church in Altoona.

Surviving are her husband; three children: Tammy Wertz in Indiana, Thomas Hembrey in Kentucky and Teri Lion of Altoona; five grandchildren: Amber (Nikki) Williams, Justin Wertz, Samantha Hembrey, Kaitlyn Hembrey and Corey Lion; eight great-grandchildren; two brothers: Steve Stacey and wife, Mary Jo, and Danny Melley and wife, Cindy; two aunts: Mildred Smith and Cricket Alianello; and several cousins, nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her brother and his wife: Richard "Dick" and Kay Stacey; and her son-in-law, Christopher M. Lion.

Nancy was a 1969 graduate of Altoona Area High School. She had retired from working in the post office in Thompson's Pharmacy on Chestnut Avenue. She was a member of Juniata United Methodist Church. She enjoyed reading, sewing, watching Christmas movies all year, cooking family dinners and spending time with her family.

Friends will be received from 3 until the 5 p.m. memorial service Tuesday, Dec. 30, 2014, at Juniata United Methodist Church, Altoona, the Rev. Brent Salsgiver officiating. Interment will be at Calvary Cemetery, Altoona. Arrangements are by Mauk & Yates Funeral Home Inc., Juniata

Nancy and I were classmates and she was maried to my cousin. She was a wonderful and kind person.  She will be greatly missed.
