John J. Schadenfroh

John J. Schadenfroh, 70, Altoona, passed away Wednesday at his residence after an extended illness. He was born in Altoona, son of the late John N. and Helen (Trendle) Schadenfroh.

He married Susan A. Wertz in 1984. John is survived by his loving wife; two children: a son, John J. Schadenfroh II of Schwenksville and a daughter, JoAnn Schadenfroh of Deltona, Fla.

He was preceded in death by a son, Joseph E. Schadenfroh; and a brother, James Schadenfroh.

John was a 1969 graduate of Altoona Area High School. 

He was a veteran of the Vietnam era, having served 16 years with the U.S. Air Force and later in the U.S. Army Reserves. 

John retired from Veeder-Root Co. after more than 40 years of service. 

He was a member with the Schellsburg VFW Post 4440, Bavarian Aide Society and New Baltimore Sportsman’s Club. 

John was an avid outdoorsman with a passion for hunting. He also enjoyed spending time with family and friends at the Schadenfroh cabin. John will be dearly missed as a wonderful father, husband and friend. 

Friends will be received from 4 to 6 p.m. Monday, April 25, 2022, at The Stevens Mortuary Inc., 1421 Eighth Ave., Altoona, where a funeral service will follow at 6 p.m. in the Stevens Memorial Chapel.

Went to grade school with John at St Marks on 6th ave and 4th street.  Good guy for sure, RIP John
