James Thomas McAbee, of Sierra Vista, Ariz., disappeared on his way home from work on March 30, 1984 and was found strangled to death in a sewage field near his home on July 18, 1984.  (Web site administrator’s note: After more than 30 years, his murder remains unsolved.)

 

Mr. McAbee owned and operated an auto body repair shop and worked for the Bob King Chrysler dealership.

 

He was born June 4, 1950 in Farmville, Va., a son of Floyd and Stella (Loneski) McAbee, and married Geraldine Brower.

 

Surviving are his wife, three children: Stephen, James and Melissa, at home.

 

Also surviving are his father and stepmother, Floyd and Connie McAbee of Four Oaks, N.C. and his mother and stepfather, William and Stella Wood of Altoona; five brothers and sisters: Floyd, Doug, Stella Louise Boyles and Mary Coke of Altoona, and Betty Woleslagle of Hollidaysburg.

 

Mr. McAbee graduated from Altoona Area High School.

 

He was an Army veteran.
