Joseph M. Hurliman, 63, Altoona, died unexpectedly Thursday evening at his residence.

He was born in Altoona, son of the late John H. and Nellie J. (Nolan) Hurliman. Surviving are a brother, John F. and wife, Linda, of Juniata; a nephew, Erich S. Hurliman of Altoona; a special friend, Kathy Thompson; and special friends, Bill and Cindy Ickes.

Joe was a 1969 graduate of Altoona Area High School. He retired as a cook for Boyer Candy Co. in 2009 after 40 years of service. He enjoyed collecting coins, baseball cards and old records.

Friends will be received from noon to 2 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 31, 2013, at Myers-Somers Funeral Home Inc., 501 Sixth Ave., Altoona, followed by a funeral service at 2 p.m., the Rev. Charles L. Baughman officiating. Interment will be made at Alto-Reste Park Cemetery.
