Elizabeth ‘Liz’ Elaine Armstrong

Elizabeth “Liz” Elaine Armstrong, 65, Antis Township, departed from this earth for her home in Heaven with her savior, Jesus Christ, on Sunday, surrounded by her family after a battle with cancer.

She was born in Altoona, daughter of Gaius A. and Dorothy (Over) Hanawalt. On May 29, 1971, she married Walter S. Armstrong at Church of God, Burnside.

Surviving are her husband; a daughter, Karrie (Charlie) Perry of Millbury, Mass.; a son, Loren Armstrong of Altoona; two grandchildren: Megan and David Perry, both of Millbury, Mass.; her mother of Altoona; two brothers: Kenneth (Susan) Hanawalt of McMurray, and Gaius (Cathy) Hanawalt of Woodland; five sisters: Deborah (Gerald) Shelow of Antis Township, Dorothy (Joseph) Colna of Frenchville, Trish (Pat) O’Brien of Durango, Colo., Jane (Ray) Messner of Altoona, and Mary (Joseph) Lee of Dillsburg. 

She was preceded in death by her father.

Liz attended Indiana University of Pennsylvania where she met the love of her life. She became a military wife and moved quite often. She received a bachelor’s degree from State University of New York, Utica, and a Master of Business Administration degree from Western New England College.

She worked as a civilian employee for the U.S. Air Force and as a budget analyst and a contract negotiator. After her husband retired from the military, she was employed at Altoona Community Action Office and later at Presbytery of Huntington before retiring.

Liz was a member of Logan Valley Presbyterian Church, Bellwood, where she served as an elder, clerk, treasurer and choir director. She enjoyed all types of crafts: sewing, quilting, crocheting, knitting and needlepoint. She shared her skills by volunteering at Fort Roberdeau where she taught quilting and quilling. She also enjoyed traveling and ballroom dancing. She traveled to all 50 states, Canada and Mexico, and she enjoyed cruising to Alaska, Panama Canal, Bermuda and the Bahamas.

Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, April 21, 2017, at Jon C. Russin Funeral Home Inc., Bellwood, and from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday, April 22, 2017, at Logan Valley Presbyterian Church, Bellwood. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the church, Pastor Joy Kaufmann officiating. A private graveside service will be held at East Ridge Cemetery, Westover.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Liz’s memory may be made to Logan Valley Presbyterian Church, 400 S. First St., Bellwood, PA 16617.

Sorry to hear of Liz's passing.  I have fond memories of her.  Rest in Peace, Elizabeth!
