Stephen J. “Steve” Fink, 56, of Altoona, died unexpectedly Friday morning after a heart attack while hunting in Jordan Township, Clearfield County.

He was born in Altoona, son of the late Mirl J. and Margaret F. (Weidmann) Fink. He married Sylvia J. Karnes Nov. 18, 1972, in Altoona. She survives him.

Surviving are four children: son, Tung “Billy” Nguyen and wife, Priscilla, daughter, Stephanie R. Hamilton, daughter, Melissa J. Noel and husband, Travis, daughter, Kristin A. Miller and husband T.J.; grandchildren: Alissa Hamilton, Madison Noel, Alexander Nguyen, Adam Hamilton, Mai-Ly Nguyen, Mia Noel, all of Altoona, and Roman Noel in Maryland. Also surviving are his mother of Altoona; and six brothers and sisters: Peg Danko in Tennessee, Jim Fink in California, Rick Fink, Mary (Fink) Beach, Joan Ehredt all of Altoona, and Dianne Halfpenny of Mount Joy; and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.

Steve was preceded in death a brother, Jackie.

Steve was a member of St. Therese of the Child Jesus Catholic Church, where he also served as an usher.

He was employed as a general division engineer by Norfolk Southern Corp. for the past 32 years.

Steve was a 1969 graduate of Altoona High School, where he was a member of the football and track teams.

He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Vietnam War, having enlisted at 17 and attaining the rank of Specialist 5 as a radar technician.

Steve’s family was his life, and he was very devoted to them, especially his wife, children and grandchildren.

He enjoyed hunting and was an avid Steelers fan. He was a member of St. Stanislaus Club and the Frohsinn Singing Society.

Friends will be received from 4 to 9 p.m. Monday, Dec. 3, 2007, at Jones Funeral Home, where a vigil for the deceased will be held in the evening.

A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 4, 2007, at St. Therese of the Child Jesus Catholic Church, with the Rev. D. Timothy Grimme officiating.

Committal rites will be held at Calvary Cemetery.
