Frank D. “Frankie” Filipiak, 56, of Altoona died Friday evening at Altoona Regional Health System, Altoona Hospital Campus. Born in Altoona, he was the son of Frank and the late Ellen (Hubner) Filipiak. He married Rosina “Dolly” M. Kreuz May 17, 1980, in Altoona.

He is survived by his wife; one daughter, Heidi Ann Filipiak, who lives at home; two sons: Christopher R. (Cheryl) and John J. (Rachael), both of Baltimore, Md.; grandchildren: Amanda M. Filipiak, Brittaney Filipiak and Nicholas E. Feather; and his father and sister, Christina Ann “Tina” Manna, both of Altoona. He also is survived by his pets: Harley and Gizmo.

Mr. Filipiak was a member of Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church.

He served in the National Guard.

He was a member of St. Stanislaus Kostka Brotherhood, a former member of James L. Noble Post 3 VFW and a member of the Bernard Good Fort Apache VFW and Froshinn Singing Society.

He retired as an electrician/ crane operator for Norfolk Southern in September 2006, with 32 years of service.

Frankie enjoyed cooking and photography.

He was a graduate of Altoona Area High School, Class of 1969.

Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, Oct. 22, 2007, at Stanley J. Krish Funeral Home Inc., 1204 17th St., Altoona, where a vigil for the deceased will be held Monday. A funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 23, 2007, at Our Lady of Fatima Church, 12th Avenue and 20th Street, Altoona, by Father James D. Zatalava. Committal at SS. Peter and Paul Roman Catholic Cemetery, Altoona. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be sent to SS. Peter and Paul Roman Catholic Cemetery Endowment Fund or to the American Cancer Society.
