Rex Fahr

Rex Fahr

Rex A. Fahr Sr.

Jan. 19, 1952 - April 13, 2017

Rex A. Fahr Sr., 65, Altoona, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Thursday after a courageous three-year battle with pancreatic cancer. He was surrounded by his loving family.

He was born in Altoona, son of the late Blaine F. and Bernice A. (Garman) Fahr. On June 7, 1969, he married Frances M. Ergler in Altoona.

Surviving are his loving wife; a daughter Teresa (Fahr) (Donald Ott) Patterson of Hollidaysburg; two sons: Rex A. (Larissa) Fahr Jr. of Altoona, and Benjamin R. (Sarah) Fahr of Dysart; five grandchildren: James A. Patterson II, Trevor Fahr, Alyssa Fahr, Austin Fahr and Jase Fahr; a brother, Blaine L. (Shirley) Fahr of Roaring Spring; his mother-in-law, Betty Ergler; many nieces and nephews; and Donald Ott’s children and granddaughter.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Roxanne Fahr.

Rex was a 1969 graduate of Altoona Area High School where he was on the baseball team, a sport that he continued after graduation. He played one season for the San Diego Padres training camp. Then he went on to the Greater City League and softball leagues, acquiring many accolades. He last worked as a driver for Blair Senior Services Transportation, and he had previously worked in the grocery business at Leighty’s and Riverside, Duncansville.

His date of salvation was Nov. 21, 2003, as a member of Heritage Baptist Church, Martinsburg. Rex was a lifetime member and a Blair County representative of United Bow Hunters of Pennsylvania. For 25 years, he was a hunter and bow hunter education instructor for Pennsylvania Game Commission. He was also president of Frankstown Sportsman Club for six years.

Rex greatly enjoyed leading people to his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. He loved to hunt, fish, swim and golf. He volunteered at Hunt of a Lifetime and Camo Cares, both of which were near and dear to his heart. But he most cherished spending time and making memories with his beloved family.

Friends will be received from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday, April 17, 2017, and from 10 until the 11 a.m. service Tuesday, April 18, 2017, at The Good Funeral Home Inc., Alto-Reste Park. Interment will be at Alto-Reste Park Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the family to help pay for Rex’s medical expenses.

Wow I'm sorry to hear of the passing of Rex. His passing helps me remember what a great baseball team we had in 1969 and how many of  those players are no longer with us. R. I. P. Go to your reward.

I didn't know Rex really well. My memories of him are mainly from competing against him on the baseball diamond starting in Little League and continuing through the AAABA up to age 19. I am saddened by his passing. He lived a full and productive life that was definitely ended too soon. May he rest in peace.

Saddened by yet the passing of another AAHS '69 classmate.  Like others, I knew Rex starting from Little Leage at Centennial Field, Mansion Park.  He was on the JV basketball team with us but stayed true to his firsst love, baseball.  He was a firey competitor, fun to be around, and a "good" guy.  So pleased to know he came to faith and is realizing now that hope of eternal life.  Enjoy your just reward, good and faithful servant.

Rex was a really nice person.  After graduation, I would sometimes run into him at the grocery store where he worked (back before I moved to Atlanta) and he would always stop what he was doing so we could talk for a few minutes.  My sympathy to his family and friends.
