Duane C. Eichenlaub, 65, Altoona, passed away Tuesday at UPMC Presbyterian Hospital, Pittsburgh, after a very extended illness.

He was born in Altoona, son of the late Ralph William and Mary (Hoover) Eichenlaub. On Oct. 25, 1969, he married Irene Louise Eckley at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church.

Surviving are his wife of 47 years; a son, Duane J. (Adrienne) Eichenlaub of Bellefonte; two daughters: Heather (Moe) Attia and Eileen (Bryan) Starr of Altoona; five sisters:  Joan Hampton of Altoona, Judy Fink in North Carolina, Marge Goodman of Hollidaysburg, Rosemary Richardson of Hollidaysburg and Jeanie Klos in Virginia; one brother, Val Eichenlaub of Altoona; and six grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Ken Eichenlaub in 2015, and twin brothers, Ralph and Raymond, who died at birth.

Duane was a 1969 graduate of Altoona Area High School. He retired in 2001 from Norfolk Southern as a machinist after 31 years of service. He was a member of St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, Cesare Battisti Club and the International Association of Machinists.

He enjoyed fishing, music and spending time with his grandchildren and his family.

Friends will be received from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, Dec. 30, 2016, at The Stevens Mortuary Inc., 1421 Eighth Ave., Altoona, where a vigil for the deceased will be held. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 31, 2016, at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, Father Brian Saylor as celebrant.
